Ashwagandha has been shown in various studies to reduce the effects and symptoms of stress and anxiety by building a substantially and effectively improves an individual's resistance towards stress.. In one study, researchers reported that ashwagandha can regulate the chemical signally in the nervous system effectively blocking the stress pathway in the brain. There are also various human studies including one 60-day study with 64 people who experience chronic stress. The people reported a 69 percent reduction in anxiety and insomnia (the placebo group reported only an 11 percent). Another 6-week study showed 88 percent cited reduced anxiety (the placebo group reported 50%). Additionally, ashwagandha has also been shown to improve the quality of sleep and even help with the treatment of insomnia.
It is safe to consume up to 1,000 mg per day (about a teaspoon), although typicall capsules or tables come in 250 mg to 600 mg.
