5 WAY TO CONNECT WITH THE ELEMENTS TO MAINTAIN MENTAL/EMOTIONAL WELLNESS

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. We wanted to share some healing benefits through connecting with the elements.

 
Earth: hike or walk in nature and when possible go barefoot
Research shows that direct contact with the earth’s surface can neutralize free radicals and help regulate our nervous system
 
Water: take a hot bath for at least 15 minutes with epsom salt and essential oils
Research shows that raising your core body temperature helps strengthen and synchronize circadian rhythms, the daily fluctuations in behavior and biochemistry that affect every one of our organs, including the brain.
Fire: light a candle made from a non-paraffin (petroleum) base such as soy naturally scented with essential oils
Start and end your day with a candle's soft illumination and aromatherapy to help destress and shift moods.
 
Air: practice breath-work such as Vedic pranayama like ocean breath (ujjayi); alternate nostril breath (nadishodhana); and humming bee breath (bhramari)
Scientifically proven to reduce stress, promote better sleep while also supporting lung function, blood pressure, and brain function
Ether: listen to devotional music and engage in kirtan, or musical mantra meditation
Research shows that spiritual sound vibration can reduce tension, anger, fatigue, anxiety, and depression and even alleviate physical pain.
